"Upscale, delicious food" Reviewed by bstorm:
'Avalon is a brand new restaurant that took over the space that was previously occupied by The Restaurant @ Donnybrook. This restaurant is perfect for a special occasion. It was newly opened when we visited and the service was excellent. We had been to the previous restaurant (in this same location) several years ago and thought it was still there. We decided to go ahead and try this new one and we were not disappointed. The menu is creative and everything we had was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The seared scallop appetizer was great and the spiced aubergine and squash salad with mint yogurt had an impressive range of flavors. You know you love it when you want to order another serving (and really don't want to share it). The vegetarian entree of roasted spiced winter roots with quinoa, kale, almonds, and smoked chili may sound strange, but everything was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The fillet of beef was excellent and I know my husband loved it because he was so busy enjoying it, he did not offer anyone a taste. We finished our meal with the poached pear in marsala with biscotti and ice cream and the dark chocolate truffle. Perfect ending to a perfect meal.'
"Pleasant surprise" Reviewed by gofar:
Stopped off for an 'early bird' to meet a group of friends early on a Sunday evening. We weren't expecting too much for this time of day but what a pleasant surprise. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The choice of food was excellent ranging from vegetarian, fish ,chicken meat and duck , despite a 'very very busy lunch crowd in earlier'. Delicious deserts (including a cheese plate) with a wide choice of wines . Exceptional value . We will definitely return soon!
